好萊塢男星西亞李畢福（Shia Labeouf）以《變形金剛》系列電影走紅全球，之後也朝幕後發展，於2019年推出電影《我的寶貝男孩》（Honey Boy），由他編寫劇本，寫實呈現兒時與父親的緊繃關係，電影最終獲得好評，沒想到事隔3年，他近來受訪時竟自爆本片大部分是虛構的，包括片中父親對他的暴力行為。

西亞李畢福在片中飾演自己的父親，另外邀來諾亞朱佩（Noah Jupe）和盧卡斯海吉斯（Lucas Hedges）飾演年輕時的他，他當時宣傳時聲稱，本片是來自於童年困境的啟發，甚至在製作這部電影之前，已經6、7年沒有和父親說過話。

但近來西亞李畢福推翻先前的說法，強調父親在現實生活中幾乎沒有動手打過他，「這是一個我曾大規模詆毀過的人，我寫了這個故事，我的父親這一生都很愛我。」成長過程中肯定會有不順遂的時候，但父親肯定都在他身旁，「他一直在那裡，而我還進行了一次全球巡迴記者會，告訴大家他是多麼可惡的男人。」

西亞李畢福也透露，當父親看到這部片時相當驚訝，因為原本收到的劇本並非如此，因為他當初只想要得到父親的允許拍攝這部片，「最後我放大了一些不真實的地方，我爸爸從來沒有打過我，從來沒有，他只打過我1次，就1次而已，但在《我的寶貝男孩》中，他卻被描繪成一直在虐待孩子。」他已經在電話中向父親坦承錯誤，表示會承擔起責任，但他理解對父親的傷害已經無法收回，讓父親餘生都有可能要面對外界的評論。
